The eagerly-awaited new album from singer/songwriter Andrew Peterson, Counting Stars, will release July 27, 2010. The CD, produced by the artist’s long-time collaborators, Ben Shive and Andy Gullahorn, is the second project from Peterson to be released by Centricity Music.

“We at Centricity Music feel like it is such a privilege to partner with Andrew Peterson,” says Steve Ford, Vice President of Sales/Marketing, Centricity Music. “When he delivered ‘Counting Stars,’ it reminded the entire staff of why we love Andrew. The twelve finely crafted songs are produced in a way that draws the listener into a place of revelation, a place where you see your life through Andrew’s eyes. This is a gift few songwriters have and that’s why we are excited about ‘Counting Stars.’”

The bulk of material for Counting Stars was recorded within eight days in Washington State during January 2010, as Peterson camped in a recording studio with Shive, Gullahorn, Gabe Scott and engineer, Todd Robbins. They loaded up their guitars, hammered dulcimer, accordion, dobro and banjo, flew from Nashville to the Northwest and started collaborating. The twelve new songs were written over a two-year period by Peterson, who is one of the most respected songwriters in several genres of music. Counting Stars gives intimate glimpses of everyday life that is so important to everyone’s heart….family, friendship, community and home.

The first single from the new album is “The Reckoning,” which has just gone for radio adds and is already receiving airplay from such stations as, KCRN/San Angelo, TX and KNLB / Phoenix, AZ. Peterson wrote the song while sitting on the porch of his home outside of Nashville when a severe thunderstorm was rolling into the area.

“I love the humility that a big, dangerous storm system gives us,” Peterson explains. “Everyone remembers they’re quite small and powerless in the scheme of things. In the twenty-first century, with jumbo jets and air conditioning and high-speed internet, we still sometimes have to run for our lives and hide in the closet under a blanket.”

“Dancing In The Minefields” is already becoming a favorite tune from the CD, as it is a thought provoking song that despite the title is a positive love song. And we’re dancing in the minefields/We’re sailing in the storms/This is harder than we dreamed/But I believe that’s what the promise is for. “World Traveler” addresses the wander-lust that lives in all of us and lets us know that the grand adventure can be in our own backyard. “In The Night” celebrates how hope lives on even through our daily pain and struggles, while “Fool With A Fancy Guitar,” reminds us that we are all priests who live in the Kingdom of God.

“The title Counting Stars ties the themes of relationship and hope together in the hope of God’s promise to Abraham,” says Peterson. “We’re a part of the cloud of witnesses, passing the promises of God to our children and their children, building this Kingdom that has no end.”

About Andrew Peterson

Peterson began his career in 1996 and signed with his first label, Watershed/Essential records in 1999. His first CD, Carried Along made CCM magazine’s list of Top Ten albums of 2000. In 2004, Peterson received his first Dove nomination for “Family Man” for Country Recorded Song of the Year. Peterson’s first project for Centricity Music in 2008, Resurrection Letters, Volume II, became the highest Billboard charting album of his career. Since 2004, Peterson has toured with several Nashville musicians and artists on his annual Christmas tour, Behold the Lamb of God: The True Tall Tale of the Coming of Christ. Peterson has also authored three children’s books, The Ballad of Matthew’s Begats, On the Edge of the Sea of Darkness and North! Or Be Eaten. For updates about Andrew Peterson please visit www.andrew-peterson.com or www.rabbitroom.com.

“We put this song on the record as a tribute to 70’s rock and roll. The lyrics are spiritual in nature, but it was not necessarily written to be a religious song. We really enjoy putting our spin on classic songs, but would never attempt to compete with the original tracks. I feel as though the vibe of this song fits what we were trying to accomplish with the record and gives it a bit more depth.” –Adam Agee

Tim Mahoney has been a fixture on the Twin Cities live music scene (as well as in most of Minnesota and surrounding states) for 15 years now, and most fans and followers have confirmed and asserted that Mahoney is at his best performing live. That’s why Mahoney is doing something slightly unconventional for his next album release. On Thursday, May 27, Mahoney and his band will perform at Sound Gallery Studios in downtown Minneapolis. Skyy Vodka will sponsor the show and it will be recorded for a live album release, tentatively set for September. Mahoney is giving away a signed guitar and Metro Magazine is doing a photo spread of the event.
“Tim Mahoney has the unique songwriting ability to take every day life, interpret it, and create magic,” says fan Patrick Moes. “I’ve seen his shows where there were less than 200 people and others that had 2,000. Nonetheless, Tim always offered his best and his magic inspired greatness.”

But his music also offers a timeless quality, as evidenced by this fan, Dena Pasicznyk Rasmussen: “Tim’s music was the soundtrack to my youth, and continues to be played in my home 20 years later, making it the soundtrack to my childrens’ youth as well.”

Further evidence of Mahoney’s magic as a live performer, local station Cities 97 has had his song, “Talk To Me,” in rotation for a few years, and it’s a live version of the song that they’ve been spinning. Mahoney will be in studio that week for an interview and to promote the show with some ticket giveaways. This is on the heels of another songwriting honor, literally. It was announced late last month that Mahoney earned an Honorable Mention for the 2009 International Songwriting Competition (ISC) for his song, “What are We Waiting For.” Last year, Mahoney finished third in the Top 40 category of the ISC for “Theme Song,” which he co-wrote with Kevin Kadish.

Tim Mahoney is living proof that great music always speaks volumes, ultimately determining what the listening public wants to hear. 65,000 of those listeners heard Mahoney sing the National Anthem at the Metrodome more than once, but for an artist having this much success without the support of a label, Tim Mahoney’s career is still just getting started. Mahoney, who wins songwriting competitions regularly, won the grand prize in the Great American Song Contest in 2008, and he was also selected in 2008 as one of the Twin Cities’ 40 Under 40 by The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. Mahoney has had songs from hisStay/Leave album licensed for eight TV shows last fall including MTV”s “The Hills” and “Life of Ryan,” and E!’s“Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and “Living Lohan.” In 2007, Mahoney won the Ray-Ban Never Hide Music Contest, which landed him in a two-page spread in Rolling StoneMagazine’s 40th Anniversary issue. Mahoney has sold over 125,000 units as an independent artist and continues to tour both with his band and as a solo performer. Stay/Leave was also selected by Target as part of its Emerging Artists Program, landing it on the end caps in music sections of 500 Target stores in the Midwest.
